Risks of Malignant Mesothelioma
Malignant mesothelioma is very fast becoming a big risk to the human society. The very nature and tenor of the disease is such that it cannot be detected in the earlier stages. By the time the disease is detected in the patient it has already advanced to the last stages. The main cause for contacting this deadly disease is through exposure to the mineral asbestos. Once a person has been exposed to this mineral, he runs the risk of getting afflicted with this disease for his entire life. Although the use of asbestos has been banned in majority of the countries still it is being used quite frequently in other countries. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral. People who live in areas that are rich in asbestos also run the risk of getting afflicted with mesothelioma. In the earlier years asbestos was quite frequently used in the manufacture of a variety of products like roofing, insulation, door gaskets, floor tiles, patching compounds, fireproof gloves and ironing board covers, brake pads, and soundproofing. People who were exposed to asbestos in these years are at a great risk of developing mesothelioma.
It is not only that the people working in the asbestos rich environment are at the risk of developing mesothelioma. Even the family members of these people are at risk of developing this disease as the asbestos fibers can be easily carried to home through clothes, hair or shoes. It has been observed that the instances of mesothelioma are declining among men and is on the rise among women. This may be due to the buildings that they live in or their work place.
The governments of all the nation states and the other international health organizations should stand up and take notice of the fact that mesothelioma is fast becoming a threat to the society. It needs to be tackled immediately.
